Deployed Chaplains’ Little Debbie Project

This week, the Church of God Chaplains Commission shipped 286 bulk boxes of Little Debbie brownies to Iraq and Afghanistan. The Little Debbie holiday project began with donations from local churches during the July 4th “God and Country” celebration.

“These donations enabled us to send enough brownies for our Church of God chaplains in Iraq and Afghanistan to share with every soldier in their unit during the holy Christmas season,” stated Dr. Robert crick, director of the Church of God Chaplain’s Commission. Deployed chaplains to receive these brownies are: Chaplain (MAJ) Charles Kuhlman, Chaplain (CPT) Jeff Roberson, Chaplain (CPT) Jeff Baratels, Chaplain (MAJ) Ray Williams, Chaplain (CPT) Bill Martin, Chaplain (MAJ) Terry Simmons, Chaplain (CPT) Barron Wester and Chaplain (CPT) Dasha Somaratna.

In addition to a packet of five brownies to be given to each of the troops of our chaplains, they will also receive 300 Psalm 91 bandanas. This specially printed bandana, with Psalm 91, is a symbol of “the Lord covering you with His feathers, and under His wings you will find refuge.” In many cases, those chaplains who have troops in remote areas spread throughout the combat zone, the gift of the Little Debbie brownies and Psalm 91 bandanas is a way of the chaplains showing good will in letting his troops know that he truly cares and keeps them at the center of his prayers. Our chaplains tell us that these gifts often lead to conversation and prayer; and in many cases, to a decision to make Christ their Savior.

It is interesting to note that a former Church of God missionary, who is now an employee of the Cleveland, Tenn. post office, volunteered to help with the shipment to ensure the boxes were properly stamped, customs forms appropriately attached, and that they were shipped on time in order to reach our chaplains prior to the holidays.

This is one of many Chaplains Commission projects for our deployed chaplains and soldiers in hostile areas.
