A Never Expected Outcome

TURKEY — My first stop was the home of my friend and dear brother Hal. While there, we prayed together and visited with his family. The most remarkable event of my visit was an encounter with Hal’s sister-in-law.

Though she was somewhat ill, we read the Bible and prayed on two different days. On the second day, I prayed the sinner’s prayer and asked her if she would like to pray the prayer with me. She responded “yes,” and we prayed together. I asked her if she believed it; she said “yes.” I asked her if she believed Jesus was the Son of God and the God of the universe; she said “yes.” I asked her if she believed Jesus died for our sins, became the real sacrifice and covers our sins with His blood; she responded “yes.” I asked if she accepted Jesus as Savior and Lord; she said “yes!”

I was astounded. I could not believe my ears—that is why I kept asking. I have known this woman about 13 years, and she has never listened to what I said. She used to respond by leaving the room and praying toward Mecca.

I never expected this. In fact, I had given up on her, thinking she was a lost cause. But my Lord Jesus always manifests Himself unexpectedly and in unusual ways when I come to Turkey!
