Operation Compassion Delivers Shoes to Romania
In an effort to continue interdepartmental cooperation, Operation Compassion and the Chaplain’s Commission have partnered to send two containers of shoes to Oradea, Romania. These shoes are going to the Medical/Chaplains/Care Center for distribution to inmates and gypsies.
Operation Compassion, through its international network of donors was able to procure the shoes in Bulgaria. A partial shipping grant was also secured and the Chaplain’s Commission raised the remaining finances to insure the shoes delivery to Oradea.
During the next several weeks, staff and volunteers will be distributing the shoes to the gypsies living in the surrounding area. Gypsies in Romania are living in desperate circumstances, well below poverty levels. The majority of the gypsy children have never owned a pair of shoes. However, through this partnership, more than 16,000 pairs of shoes will be distributed to these impoverished communities.
In Romania, prison inmates do not receive clothing from the state. It is up to each family to care for their incarcerated loved one. Many inmates do not have shoes because of the expense. As part of the Care Center’s ongoing ministry, a portion of the shoes will be designated for distribution to the local prisons and jail. Many inmates whose feet are raw from walking barefooted will now have shoes so their feet can heal.
