Operation Compassion Prepares for Disaster Response

Somewhere in the world a disaster strikes! Often the survivors of these disasters are unprepared and unable to handle the immediate crisis. Survivors become dependent upon resources being mobilized by government agencies and non-profit charities. For families, it can become a life or death struggle trying to find food, water and shelter, the basic necessities of life.

Because no one has long term advanced warning of these impending disasters, Operation Compassion is continually preparing for disaster response. From the very beginning when Operation Compassion responded to the survivors of Hurricane Mitch in 1998, disaster response has been a process of receiving, storing and shipping disaster relief goods around the world.

It is not an easy task, trying to keep a variety and a certain amount of product available and keep it as fresh as possible. In order for this process to work, Operation Compassion formed a network of disaster relief partners that will help respond. There was no reason to duplicate services of other charities or agencies. By creating these partnerships and working in harmony, Operation Compassion is able to multiply the level of response given at any one disaster.

Operation Compassion has responded to more than 75 disasters in the United States and around the world during the past 14 years. Some of the disasters Operation Compassion have responded to include Hurricane Mitch, 911 Bombing, Indonesian Earthquake and Tsunami, Hurricane Katrina, Haiti Earthquake, Japan Earthquake, numerous tornadoes and severe flooding. While some of these responses only lasted a few weeks, many have lasted for months and some for more than a year. In fact, the earthquake in Haiti is an ongoing response.

If you would like to become a disaster relief partner, financial donations can be made by giving online, over the telephone or through the mail. It is easy, safe and secure. Will you help?
