Each year, the International Department of Youth and Christian Education (YCE) sets a theme and program for the annual Children’s Day emphasis, suggested for the last Sunday of August. A suggested program is provided and can be downloaded by going to the YCE Department website, www.extremegen.org.
“August 26, 2008 will be a day you will not soon forget,” stated Tony Lane, coordinator of Sunday School and children’s ministries for the YCE department. “On this day you will find yourself cheering, singing, worshipping and jumping. Get ready, because August 26th is the date for this year’s International Children’s Day for the Church of God and you are invited to Jump In!”
According to Lane. this year’s theme is “Jump In! Finding and Pursuing Your Dreams” and it is full of excitement for the entire family. “Everything that is and was began with a dream and we are all aware that children have magnificent imaginations and dreams. Therefore room must be made for them to take action in pursuing their dreams. And in doing so it is vital that they know that this action begins with Jesus, and that they understand how to find and pursue those dreams in Him.”
“Imagine, for a moment, the outcome of dreams pursued that are centered on Jesus, and Him directing the steps along the journey,” Lane continued. “Remember that the steps of a good man or woman are ordered by the Lord. Children need to know that if they trust in the Lord with all their heart and lean not to their own understanding; acknowledge God in all their ways, then He will direct their paths and that includes the one to their dreams. It is the winning formula for arriving at their dreams!”
Program suggestions are provided free of charge. All churches are encouraged to utilize this emphasis to recognize children’s ministry leaders, workers, and children.
