Commemorative 75th Assembly Publication Released for GA2014
The upcoming Church of God International Assembly meets July 29 – August 1, 2014. The biennial event will mark the 75th time Church of God ministers and laity have met as an Assembly for business and fellowship. In celebration of the milestone, delegates at GA2014 will receive a special commemorative magazine entitled, It Seemeth Good to the Holy Ghost and Us.
The 36-page full color publication takes a journey through the history of the General Assemblies. Prepared by the Church of God Historical Commission and the Dixon Pentecostal Research Center, the document celebrates 75 General Assemblies.
“Delegates to the first Assembly in 1906 understood themselves as following the model of the Jerusalem Council in Acts 15,” stated Dr. David Roebuck, director of the Pentecostal Research Center. “As they concluded their work, they rejoiced with a paraphrase of the Apostles and Elders in Acts 15: 28, ‘It seemeeth good to the Holy Ghost and us.’”
Between 1906 and 1946, Church of God delegates came together every year to conduct the assembly. Two exceptions were 1913, when the meeting was moved from March to November (two meetings that year), and in 1918 when no meeting was held due to a nationwide outbreak of influenza. Since 1946 it has been held every two years.
The narrative and numerous photos includes six sections:
• Our First General Assembly
• The New Testament Pattern
• Worship and Fellowship
• Women at the General Assembly
• The Black Assembly
• It Happened at the General Assembly
A timeline across the bottom of the pages highlights events at various Assemblies including significant decisions made and places the Assembly has met.
“This informative souvenir is a gift to registered delegates,” stated Floyd Carey, chairman of the Church of God Historical Commission. “It will take readers on an inspiring journey of 75 General Assemblies and is a companion to the Heritage Exhibit in the exhibit hall.”
