Orphans at Guatemala Home Raise Funds for Needy Families

To orphans in Guatemala, $1,068 is an unimaginable amount of money. Yet, the children of the Casa Shalom Church of God orphanage banded together and in three months raised that sum to build a home for a needy family in Cambodia. It is part of the People for Care and Learning Build a City project.

When the children learned of the project, they immediately wanted to help—they know what it is like not to have a safe home with clean water, solid walls and floor, and electricity. Each child six years old and older contributed in his or her own way. Some raffled a bike they had received as a gift. Others held bake sales. A few of the artistically-gifted teenagers painted pictures and made crafts, selling them to visiting missions teams from the United States. The children did extra chores around the orphanage to earn money to donate.

Though they are poor, the orphans of Casa Shalom are learning to give back, to use their hands and their abilities in a sacrificial way to help others.
