Operation Compassion Continues Response to Illinois Tornadoes
Illinois was pounded by numerous tornadoes last Sunday morning and afternoon. As many as six people died in Illinois, more than 400 homes were destroyed and many more damaged. Throughout the Midwest people took shelter only to come out to see the reality of such devastation and loss.
In the wake of these storms, Operation Compassion has contacted its disaster relief network of partners to assist in planning a coordinated response to the survivors of Sunday’s tornado outbreak in central Illinois. Two semi-trucks loaded with disaster products such as bottled water, Gatorade, blankets and other necessary products were delivered Tuesday November 19.
These semis will be going to the greater Washington, IL area which was the hardest hit area. The Lord’s Table Church and the Lifehouse Church will be distributing these supplies. In addition, a box truck will similar supplies will be delivered to Brookport Church in Brookport, IL which suffered severe damage but is less populated. Also, a box truck will be delivered to the Woodland Church in Kokomo, IN.
In addition to the products available, Operation Compassion has disaster trained Chaplains, a mobile kitchen capable of distributing 5,000 meals and construction and clean-up crews. Operation Compassion is working with local pastors and authorities in determining where resources are best placed.
