Operation Compassion Partners with God’s Pit Crew to Rebuild Homes in Moore, OK
After a deadly tornado ripped through Moore, Oklahoma earlier this year, Operation Compassion, an independent benevolent organization with roots in the Church of God, and many relief partners responded to the immediate needs of the community. Operation Compassion responded with four relief sites, twenty-five semi-trucks of goods, shower trailers, freezer units and forty-foot storage units. In addition, Operation Compassion sent financial resources to other charities to assist with their responses.
As the needs shifted from immediate relief to long term relief, Operation Compassion and its partners wanted to do more. God’s Pit Crew, another organization with ties to the Church of God, invited Operation Compassion to join with them to help raise the necessary funds to build two homes for two families that had lost everything with no means to restore their homes. As the process of raising finances, procuring materials and equipment and locating volunteers began, a theme was created – Coming Back for Moore!
As part of its commitment to the project, Operation Compassion agreed to make an $80,000 matching grant available and several pieces of equipment. God’s Pit Crew also made a financial grant available and is actually spearheading these rebuilds. God’s Pit Crew led an eighteen semi-truck caravan traveling more than 1,000 miles across country to Moore. Two days later, when construction began more than 80 volunteers were onsite ready to work. By the end of day two, one house was roofed and shingles were being applied; the walls of the second house were up and the roof trusses were being lifted into place.
With $140,000 of the approximate total budget of $200,000 raised, the remainder of the budget will need to be raised with the help of concerned neighbors from across the country. Join the team! Together, we are Coming Back to Moore!
