Focus on Austral/Asia: Church of God in Fiji Completes National Assembly

Church of God pastors, members and their families recently attended the biennial Church of God Fiji National Assembly held in the capital city of Suva.

The five days of meetings were held at the Church of God in Suva, where Bishop Sialeni Vuetaki serves as pastor. Vuetaki is also national overseer for the Church of God in Fiji.
The theme for the gathering was “Knowing Your Time,” based on 1 Chronicles 12:32. Featured speaker for the assembly was Marc Morris, regional superintendent for the Church of God in Austral Asia. At its peak, the meeting attracted over 1,000 delegates from all islands of Fiji. Some families traveled eight hours by boat to reach the assembly venue.

“The theme for the national assembly is an appropriate and fitting one and we are encouraged and invited to understand and know our times,” Vuetaki stated.

The Church of God in Fiji has 5,717 members who attend 57 churches. There are 52 credentialed ministers, most of whom attended the assembly to take part in worship, fellowship and church business. Several ministers were elected to critical leadership posts during the meeting and set forth in a special commissioning service on Saturday morning.

“The Church of god in Fiji is keenly tuned in to participating in Church of God programs and staying true to the teachings and doctrine,” Morris stated. “Fiji has been the destination of recent international projects, such as the building of a new church by Men and Women of Action earlier this year.” As part of the assembly, breakout sessions were conducted which focused on women in ministry, Men in Action, Youth With a Mission, boys clubs and children’s ministries.

“The future is extremely bright in Fiji with a dedicated group of godly ministers and laypersons ready to reach the harvest,” Morris concluded. “I was encouraged and challenged as I worked with Bishop Vuetaki and other leaders to plan for the future of the Church of God in Fiji.”
