What’s Right With the Church – Part 2
Church of God world Missions Director Tim Hill concludes a two-part article series.
What’s right with the church? Finally, a good question. Rather than focus on the negative aspects of church work and function, let’s accentuate the positive.
The faith of the church is right. I’m talking about what we fundamentally believe. Now real quick, let’s set aside for another place and another time our discussions on the various and intricate details of doctrine and embraced practices.
While we all are loyal to our beliefs, let’s find common ground here for once, raise a flag of unity over it, and be the Body of Christ we are called to be.
Here we go:
• Jesus is Lord and the virgin-born Son of God.
• His blood still cleanses from sin.
• His love knows no limits.
• The name, Jesus, is above every other name.
• He has no contemporary.
• He has no competition.
• God’s Word is inspired and infallible,
and every good and perfect gift comes from His gracious hand.
• That same hand still reaches farther down than we can reach up.
• Righteousness still exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people.
• It’s not the Father’s will that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
• The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our God, and of His Christ.
• Every knee shall bow, and every tongue confess that Jesus is Lord.
• Jesus went to prepare us a place where we can live with Him forever.
• He cares enough to forgive our past, provide for our present, and secure our future.
• He didn’t leave us comfortless.
• And, He still answers prayer.
Pardon me while I shout … Ok, I’m back now.
We are living in times of serious compromise, and even attack on the fundamentals of the Christian faith. Policies may be debated. Practices may be questioned, but fundamentals are non-negotiable. Make no excuse, and make no apology.
Jesus said, “I will build My church.” Indeed, He has, and He has built it to last by the power of His name, and the strength of His word.
What a foundation!
Now we can stand on that.
