Interim President Tapped for ORU
By Allie Martin, OneNewsNow.com
Earlier this month, Oral Roberts University’s (ORU) benefactors chose longtime university official Ralph Fagin to serve as interim president. ORU president Richard Roberts resigned in November, after three former employees sued the university claiming wrongful termination. The suit also shed light on alleged mismanagement of school funds and resources.
Green’s family then made a conditional $70-million donation, which has restructured the university’s operations from a board of regents to shared governance — governance in which employees have input. Green says he also had several conditions for the position of interim president.
“Whoever we selected could not be a candidate for president, so I didn’t want somebody coming in and using that position to garner president,” he stipulates. “Second of all, I wanted somebody who was on the ORU staff.”
The reason behind picking a staff member for that position, says Green, was to find someone who had years of experience with the university. Fagin was a logical choice, he continues, because Fagin has been part of ORU for almost 30 years.
Green’s family founded the Hobby Lobby and Mardel Christian and educational supply store chains.
