Women in Ministry Conference Slated for August 8-10, 2013

An excited and enthusiastic steering committee met on Tuesday, February 19, 2013, to discuss a conference for Church of God women in ministry to be sponsored by the Division of World Evangelization/USA Missions.

Chaired by Assistant General Overseer Wallace J. Sibley, and co-chaired by USA Missions Administrative Coordinator James E. Cossey, the committee consisted of Dorothy Sibley, Myrlene Cossey, Kathy Gillum, and USA Missions Board Members Jacqueline Smith, Michelle Davenport, and Thomas Gillum.

According to a statement from Cossey, “Both the Executive Director (Wallace Sibley) and I are sons of lady ministers, and there are some 3,400 credentialed female ministers in the U.S.A. and Canada, plus thousands more who regularly engage in meaningful, productive ministry, but do not carry license. This conference is extremely personal and important to us…and to them!”

In discussing the mission and purpose of the conference it was agreed that the express purpose will be to edify, affirm, and provide interaction among female ministers in all areas of ministry including evangelism, pastoral ministry, youth and children’s ministry, counseling, and chaplaincy. The conference will be conducted by and for Church of God female ministers, and open to both those who are credentialed and to those who are unlicensed. The intent is not to bring in “big name” speakers to “speak to” our ladies, but to empower and affirm our own female ministers to interact with and speak to each other in a Thursday night through Saturday morning format. While the Friday night service will likely have a keynote speaker, the basic format throughout will lend itself to interaction, not monologue.

The exact location is yet to be determined, but initial plans are for the meeting to be in the Cleveland, Tennessee area. The scheduled date is August 8-10, 2013. More information is forthcoming and will be available at www.usamissions.com, by calling 423.478.7103, or by emailing [email protected].
