Church of God Bible Reading Now in Final Hours
January 7, 2013—Cleveland, TN–A complete reading of the Bible was completed on Monday morning, January 7, but the live-streaming event will continue until 9:00 p.m. EST.
On January 1, Church of God General Overseer Mark Williams began reading Genesis at 6:00 am and the 15-hour-per-day marathon continued until the last chapter of Revelation was read this morning by Dorothy Sibley. Since the completion, readers have been continuing the event starting with the book of John. The event will finish at 9:00 p.m. EST tonight as Williams and his wife, Sandra Kay, bring a final concluding reading.
“We are so grateful to the dozens of people who signed up to read during the last seven days,” stated David Ray, administrative liaison to the general overseer and coordinator of the reading project. “We wanted to be sure that everyone who signed up to read has a chance to do so.” Ray stated that 30-minute time slots were allocated through this evening to assure a complete reading of the 66 books of the Old and New Testaments took place.
The reading project has been broadcast via web stream since the beginning, with participants reading in time slots averaging 25 minutes. A number of local churches, as well as youth groups and employees of the International Offices have read from several versions of the Word.
Statistics have been monitored throughout the event and reveal that the webstream has been viewed in more than 75 countries, including every continent. The site has been visited by more than 25,000. An active discussion stream has been ongoing during the event as well.
The marathon Bible reading event has served as a prelude to the 2013 READ Initiative where everyone is invited to read the Bible through this year. To learn more, visit www.churchofgod.org.
