Brooklyn, New York Is Focus of U.S.-Based Mission Project
Church of God World Missions has chosen Brooklyn, New York as a U.S.-based missions project to bring practical ministry and help to hurting, desperate people.
“As pastors and members around the U.S. support this project, we, as the Church of God movement, will make a significant impact on one of the largest urban areas of the world,” stated Tim Hill, director of Church of God world Missions.
Poverty, drug addiction and violent crime have become sad realities of everyday life in Brooklyn. For decades, these problems have persisted and been passed to the next generation. Many social problems associated with poverty, from crime to drug addiction, have plagued areas within Brooklyn for many years. The New York Urban Ministries Center offers practical solutions to those who need them most. Under the leadership of Administrative Bishop Andrew Binda and with a goal of $100,000, this project will strategically target three areas of need: education development, benevolence and ministerial training.
Education development offers learning opportunities through GED and SAT preparation, scholarship programs and vocational studies. After-school programs will help students academically and offer an alternative to being home alone or on the streets.
Benevolence ministries, including feeding programs, clothing distribution and counseling services serve practical needs that often go unmet. Adult daycare and childcare programs offer relief to individuals who have family responsibilities keeping them from furthering their education or being able to work.
Ministerial training coordinates education programs such as the Ministerial Internship Program (MIP), Calling and Ministerial Studies (CAMS), Lay Leadership Development, and Chaplaincy Training. This unique arm of the ministry helps form leaders and life-changers to minister in their own cities.
Hill asks, “Will you consider giving a designated offering this year to one of our very first U.S. based missions projects? Many churches and individuals are promising to raise $1,000 this year, while some pledge $500. Whatever the amount of your gift, it will be used 100 percent to reach one of the most populated areas of North America for Christ.”
