Hurricane Isaac Spawns Relief Effort from Operation Compassion
Hurricane Isaac is continuing to pound the coastal region of Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama with torrential rains, storm surge, fierce winds and flooding in low lying areas with no immediate end in sight. According the National Weather Service, Hurricane Isaac’s fury will last from 18 to 24 hours putting undue stress on local resources in the area.
Not waiting until the storm has passed through to other areas, Operation Compassion and partners are responding with needed assistance. Blankets, bottled water, cleaning supplies, food and snacks are some of the supplies being delivered and distributed through the region. Many of our partners are on the ground, while others are on the way to the devastated areas.
Operation Compassion is also helping with an urgent need to provide financial assistance to 500 Hispanic families that evacuated Louisiana and are seeking shelter in Houston and Dallas. Fidencio Burgueno, Administrative Bishop for the South Central Hispanic region has spearheaded this evacuation plan for those in harm’s way.
Pastor Kenny Flaming of Cornerstone Church of God in Chalmette, La. has experienced flood and storm surge greater than 12 feet, completely inundating the parsonage. Operation Compassion is sending a 36 foot travel trailer with slide outs for Pastor Flaming and his family until the parsonage can be rebuilt.
