Great Day of Prayer Is This Sunday

This coming Sunday, July 1, will be the last Great Day of Prayer of this General Assembly period and the last of the administration of Church of God General Overseer Raymond Culpepper. For the past four years, Culpepper has called Great Days of Prayer every quarter.

P. Douglas Small, coordinator of Prayer Ministries is asking Church of God congregations to join the ‘Call 2 Fall’ effort, an interdenominational, evangelical prayer effort being coordinated by the Family Research Council.

Pierre Bynum, of the Family Research Council says the idea is simple. “The Call 2 Fall is nothing fancy. No slick program. No big production. Just setting aside a definite time during worship on July 1, 2012 when you call your people to get on their knees and faces before the Lord in repentant prayer for God to reshape our lives and renew our land.” Pastors are asked to invite the entire congregations ‘fall to their knees’ for a time of prayer in behalf of the nation on July 1, the Sunday nearest July 4th, the nation’s birthday. A video is available for download at www.call2fall.com . Bynum will be one of the speakers are the Church of God General Assembly prayer training event in Orlando, July 24-27.

Small reports that last year more than 10,000 congregations participated. This year, almost a million and a half have indicated their support for the simple exercise. “Imagine heaven’s perspective – and millions of Christians kneel in church after church, across the span of the entire nation, and ask God to intervene in the life of our nation!” Unified prayer has always been a critical element of spiritual awakening.
