Leader of IPHC Resigns

Presiding Bishop Ronald W. Carpenter, Sr., has announced his resignation as General Superintendent of the International Pentecostal Holiness Church effective July 19, 2012.

In his resignation letter to the Council of Bishops, Presiding Bishop Carpenter cited side effects from chemotherapy for melanoma and uncertainty about future side effects as reasons for his resignation.

He said, “I intended to finish this term, and I would if I felt remaining in office were best. However, I am confident this is the right decision for the IPHC and the right decision for my family and me.”

Before authorizing this public announcement, Presiding Bishop Carpenter informed General Ministries Cabinet members and Global Ministry Center employees of his decision. In that notice he made it clear that although he is resigning as General Superintendent, he will continue his ministry through other avenues of service.

The Council of Bishops, the governing body of the Church, will address Presiding Bishop Carpenter’s resignation in their July meeting. Under the Bylaws of the IPHC Dr. Doug Beacham, current Vice Chairman, will become General Superintendent on July 19 and serve out the remainder of
Bishop Carpenter’s term, which was scheduled to end in July 2013.

IPHC News will continue to provide coverage of Presiding Bishop Carpenter’s resignation, his legacy of service, and the transition process as more information becomes available.
