Conference Introduces ‘The Praying Church Movement’

Leaders from more than twenty states came to celebrate the launch of the Praying Church Movement in the Church of God. The event was hosted by the Church at Liberty Square in Cartersville, Georgia.

The Praying Church Movement is a network of Church of God prayer leaders who affirm the seven goals of a praying church and are attempting to move their congregations in that direction.

Special guests for the Cartersville event included Dr. Mark Williams, Assistant General Overseer of the Church of God; Dave Butts, Chairman of America’s Prayer Committee that oversees the National Day of Prayer; and Southern Baptist prayer leader and author, Claude King, author of Experiencing God.

According to Doug Small, leader of the Church of God Prayer Initiative and director of Project Pray, around tables and around the walls, delegates reviewed the new 750 page manual with practical resources for the local church prayer leadership team. They also heard Small explain in detail, first year steps in laying a deep and thoughtful foundation – not for a mere ‘prayer ministry,’ but to grow a ‘praying church.’

“Prayer,” he declared, “is at its heart worship, and at its edge mission. And in between, God meets our needs.”
