Winterfest Delegates Participate in ‘Impact Knoxville’

At the recent 30th Anniversary of Smoky Mountain Winterfest in Knoxville, Tennessee, thousands of teens and young adults gathered for worship, prayer, and ministry. However, almost 300 students from around the nation decided to truly make the most out of their time at Winterfest. With hearts, hands, and attitudes ready to serve, these young men and women partnered with eight local Knoxville ministries to share the love and the hope found in Jesus Christ!

Middle school and high school students willingly gave their time and energy to “Impact Knoxville.” The projects were facilitated by ministries such as The Salvation Army, Operation Backyard, and Compassion Coalition. During this initiative, Church of God students served in a variety of capacities; from constructing a handicap ramp for an elderly couple, to feeding the homeless, and evangelizing the hurting and lost. When a group of these students arrived to unload a semi-trailer of food supplies at one location, a long line of needy families were already waiting.

Much of the coordination of this special day of service and ministry in Knoxville was provided by Pastor Steve McCullar of the Cornerstone Church of God. The ministry at each location was also enhanced by leaders and students in The MISSION, which are full-time, residential discipleship and training centers in Florida, Texas, Georgia, and Baltimore and sponsored by Church of God Youth and Discipleship. Students at The MISSION are doing ministry, serving their community, earning college credit, and developing as leaders and ministers in an intensive 9-month program. Visit www.cogyouth.org.

The city of Knoxville not only felt the impact of so many Winterfest students purchasing food, staying in hotels, and shopping that weekend; it also felt the impact of students who were “Jesus as Winterfest” through “Impact Knoxville.” This appears to be the beginning of a growing, powerful, and lasting tradition within Winterfest. Undoubtedly, the Lord has greater things ahead for Winterfest, and we believe that service and sharing Jesus are a part of the catalyst to what is in store!
