Operation Compassion Responds to Tornado Outbreak

March 5, 2012–An early season outbreak of tornadoes raced across the country last Friday leaving death and destruction in its wake. The line of severe weather stretched from Alabama to Indiana and included Cleveland, Tennessee, location of Operation Compassion and the Church of God International Offices.

As of today, Operation Compassion, an independent benevolent organization with roots in the Church of God, has set up eight disaster relief sites in five states, removing and cleaning debris, feeding hot meals and distributing product, including Bibles. Currently, there are eight semi-trucks in route to these disaster sites filled with relief goods. Operation Compassion has trucks and crews stretched all across the storm-ravaged areas, including such sites as Branson, Missouri, a popular tourist destination.

Cleveland, Tennessee and Bradley County, was hit last Friday by strong storms which destroyed several homes and businesses, but fortunately claimed no lives. The city and county is still in recovery mode from April 27, 2011 when it was hit by four tornadoes, which claimed nine lives and caused destruction and extensive damage to over 200 homes and structures.

While the exact number of tornadoes is currently being tabulated by the National Weather Service, Operation Compassion has been responding to numerous calls for help and assistance.

In addition, Operation Compassion’s disaster relief network of partners has also swung into action. God’s Pit Crew, Mercy Chefs, Feed the Children and others are doing their part in the relief and recovery of many communities that were hard hit on Friday.

The response by Operation Compassion and their disaster relief network will help countless families deal with the initial shock of the tornadoes and help them find hope to rebuild in the midst of chaos. If you would want to help your neighbors in Alabama, Kentucky, Illinois, Missouri and Tennessee there are three ways to do so.
