Missionaries Survive, Assist in Typhoon Aftermath

Church of God missionaries Tom and Margaret Tioaquen

report of surviving a typhoon in the Philippines last month.

On the night of December 16, typhoon “Sendog” came ashore on the island of Mindanao. The waters ran off the mountain with such fury that few people in its path escaped.

It even touched the families of some of our children in Fresh Hope Refuge Shelter. Gabriel is one of those. His sisters escaped with their grandmother to a hillside just before the waters crashed through their area. They survived, though they lost everything. Everyone else in the community drowned. Tioaquen Ministries and partners have been able to send relief to this grandmother through finances, food and clothing.

One of our pastor friends had a large church building that was swept out to sea during the storm. The waters were so high and savage. We are waiting to make contact with this congregation.

We have reports of other pastors and congregations that were swept out to sea also, but these are unconfirmed reports as to how many missing and numbered killed.
