Resources Available for January Prayer Emphasis
(The following is a letter from Church of God Prayer Coordinator, Doug Small regarding information on a January Prayer emphasis in the Church of God):
Dear Pastor and Prayer Leader:
On January 4, the first Sunday of 2009, Dr. Raymond Culpepper has called our congregations to hold the first of several quarterly “Great Days of Prayer!”
On the website – www.forwardtogetherinchangingtimes.com – you will find a number of resources to help you plan and conduct a successful prayer event. These resources include:
1. A Planning Guide to assist you in thinking about the kind of prayer service you plan to conduct.
2. A sample communion prayer service – with a companion power point presentation.
3. A directed prayer experience focused on the nation.
4. A number of suggestions for practical prayer experiences on the weekend of your Great Day of Prayer, including a 24 hour prayer chain leading up to the prayer service.
5. You will also find a prayer styles guide to help you think through various approaches to prayer.
6. Both the communion service and the prayer service for the nation have supporting power point presentations.
7. You will also find an article introducing the prayer themes and dates for the Great Days of Prayer events.
These are only resources. Try them on. Use all or a part of them. Choose the components that fit your situation and the needs of your congregation. Above all – Pray!
After your prayer experience, please return to the site and share your experience. Send me a note. Tell me if the resources were helpful, how you used them. Did they provoke prayer? Was your experience laced with the presence of the Holy Spirit? How can we improve it next time?
When you visit the www.forwardtogetherinchangingtimes.com Web site, click on “Great Days of Prayer” which will take you to the link where the above resources are available.
God Bless!
P. Douglas Small, Church of God, Prayer Coordinator (dougsmall@projectpray.org)
