New center in Ecuador

During the recent International Care Conference in Quito, Ecuador, a new multipurpose building was dedicated. The building serves as a chaplaincy, urban missions, trans-cultural studies and social development center. The facility was made possible through donations made by The Lazarus Foundation, the Fort Mill Church of God in South Carolina with Senior Pastor David Kemp, and many others. The strong chaplaincy emphasis for this facility was approved by the Church of God Chaplains Commission. Chaplains Commission Board Member David Kemp was responsible for providing the initial funds to purchase the property and get construction underway. At the dedication, the Fort Mill Church of God was given special citation for their vision to be part of this new emphasis at Seminario Sudamericana (SEMISUD).

In addition to the building, the Church of God Chaplains Commission approved a “Chair” of chaplaincy studies for SEMISUD. President David Munguia has appointed Dr. Erik Vasquez to be the Professor of Record for this Chair. Dr. Vasquez has been working with the Chaplains Commission for a number of years in developing courses and programs throughout South America. Additionally, Missionary Paul Stockard was given special appointment as the coordinator of South American chaplaincy programs. He and Dr. Vasquez will ensure that every student attending the Seminary will receive chaplaincy and care courses; and, through this facility, these ministries will be developed throughout South America. The Church of God Chaplains Commission believes that chaplaincy is a ministry “beyond the gates” that must be placed in the hearts of Bible College and Seminary students as they begin to envision ministry in today’s post-modern world.
