Prayer — Missing in Action

America’s National Prayer Committee has released the 592-page book titled Giving Ourselves to Prayer: An Acts 6:4 Primer for Ministry. The book was compiled after ministry officials became alarmed at what they perceived as a lack of education and practical application of prayer for ministerial students and pastors.
The 80-chapter book features a variety of Christian authors who write about different aspects of prayer. Among those aspects — “Hindrances to Effective Prayer,” “To Whom Does God Listen?”, and “Pastoral Prayers of Intercession.”
John Graf, who serves on the ministry’s executive committee, says the book will be a relevant and useful tool for pastors.
“We want a book like this to really help give some insights and some information to help…pastoral majors [particularly], as they go into the ministry…to be able to grow prayer in their local church,” he explains.
Graf — who authored a chapter entitled “Prayer in the Corporate Worship Service” as well as the book The Power of Personal Prayer — says many pastors feel ill-equipped to disciple others in prayer, to lead a prayer meeting effectively, or to help church leaders engage in seeking God’s will when it comes to church business.
