USA Missions Hosts 2011 Jail and Prison Ministries Conference
The 2011 Jail and Prison Ministries Conference was held recently in the World Evangelization Center on the Church of God International Offices campus in Cleveland, Tennessee.
“This conference will go down in history as one of the all-time best,” stated Larry Timmerman, assistant director of Church of God USA Missions. “From the beginning to the end there was an anointing on every aspect of the conference.” Tim Hill, assistant general overseer and executive director of the World Evangelization division for the Church of God, was the keynote speaker, and, according to Timmerman, “did an outstanding job of setting the atmosphere for the rest of our time together.” Hill spoke concerning canceling things that would hinder us from fulfilling our purpose in jail and prison ministries. “What is in from of us is more important than anything behind us’” Hill stated.
The theme for this year’s conference was Turning Setbacks into Comebacks.
“In a world like we live in today, we all must use what is intended to stop the work God is doing in us, into opportunities for greater works ministries. This is our season to do what we have never done before,” Timmerman said.
Workshop leaders at the conference included Margie Collins on the topic of “Female Inmates,” Leonard Albert on “Personal Evangelism,” Richard Skinner, “Why Start a Jail and Prison Ministry,” Jake Popejoy who addressed chaplain certification, and
Tim and Leslie Bumpus who spoke about “Project New Start.”
“I am more excited about the information I have received at this conference than ever before,” stated one delegate. “I have a new vision.”
Timmerman summarized the conference by stating, “We are looking forward to the transition in USA Missions and what God is going to continue to do in the Jail and Prison Ministries.”
