Call to Prayer Highlight of Operation 911
Church of God congregations across the nation are being asked to observe the 10th anniversary of September 11, 2001 through prayers at the exact moments when the tragic events took place.
Operation 911 is being touted as a time to, “Pray at 9:00…for one minute…with one motive: spiritual awakening in America.” Dr. Tim Hill, first assistant general overseer and chair of the Church of God U.S.A Missions Division has added a special dimension to the September saturated prayer effort through a special introductory video explaining the concept. Dr. Hill notes, “The idea is simple – and yet potentially so powerful. This is,” he explains, “the tenth anniversary of 9-11. Who can forget that dismal day? The worst attack on American soil since Pearl Harbor. This year, 9-11 comes on a Sunday. The Church of God is calling for special prayer for the nation on that day.”
The video can be viewed in its entirely on the USA Missions Web site at www.usamissions.com.
The acrostic AWAKEN is being used to guide the prayer effort. Briefly the letters stand for: A – Awakening in America; W – Washington; A – spiritual Awareness of God; K – Kinfolks; E – Engaging the harvest and Evangelizing the unreached; and a New urgency and Now attitude among Christians.
Last year following the General Assembly, Dr. Raymond Culpepper urged Church of God congregations to engage in 30 Days of Concentrated Prayer. The website www.praycog.org was loaded with resources for preaching and teaching, prayer exercises and resources, including videos. This year, the call to pray through the month of September is being sounded again.
Two other videos have been produced. The first is an introductory video, available at www.praycog.org and the Church of God website. The second video is to be shown to our assembled congregations on the Sunday of September 11, and followed by a call to prayer for revival and awakening in the nation.
The prayer office is working now to mobilize prayer in every state so that for 30 days in September, the Church of God will be praying non-stop. Someone, somewhere, will be on their knees in prayer for the nation.
