Lee University’s annual “Dee Lavender Mission Week” took place Oct. 1-5 to raise funds for the Smoky Mountain Children’s Home (SMCH) in Sevierville, Tennessee. In honor of Lee’s Centennial year, the university observed its roots and early connection with Sevierville and SMCH with the theme of “Going Home.” In light of this, the children’s home provided a unique opportunity to reflect upon Lee’s legacy as well as further support their mission.
As Hurricane Michael blew onshore in Florida and into Georgia, Operation Compassion began formulating a plan to get help to the survivors as quickly as possible. With winds in excess of 155 miles per hour and storm surge between 9 and 12 feet, the immediate coastline was devastated. Hurricane Michael continued its devastation into Georgia as a category 3 storm.
Jerry and Ulli Lillard, overseer for the Church of God of the Czech Republic, finally received an approved building inspection for a new church in Prague which has been in process the past couple of years.
The Lee University annual tradition of Homecoming will have a centennial theme this year. The university anticipates more than 2,000 alumni and friends to be on campus for the much anticipated weekend of celebration.
Ron Hepperly, regional superintendent for the Church of God in the Southeast Asia Region, is also director of RIO Missions. Its vision and mission are “to go boldly in Christ where no one dares, to shine His light, to share His name, to meet the need, to help, to feed, to reach this world ‘til Kingdom come.”
Cleveland, TN–Lee University saw its ranking rise once again this year in the popular U.S. News & World Report (USNWR) “Best Colleges 2019” edition. The Church of God’s oldest educational institution was also recently ranked sixth in the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) ranking of “Colleges Where Students Feel Most Engaged.”
