God’s Faithfulness

PHILIPPINES — As a missionary kid, I’m full of stories of God’s healing power, miraculous provision and unfailing protection. But the story that typifies our lives as a mission family isn’t really all that dramatic, involving only a desperate father and a prayer. Weeks before the movie Fireproof opens in theaters, The Love Dare, a book that began as a plot device in the film, has sold 300,000 copies into bookstores and is in its third printing. Sony Pictures opens Fireproof in some 750 theaters this Sept. 26.

Free Faith-Based Television Gaining Ground in U.S. Prisons

A Trinity Broadcasting Network initiative created to impact the nation’s soaring recidivism rates is gaining in popularity with correctional officials. Launched in 2007, TBN Second Chance is a faith-based program designed to give inmates a second chance to make good choices by providing positive, life-affirming television programming around the clock. The program is fully funded by TBN, the largest faith-based network in the world, and provides up to four different channels for diverse inmate populations-along with the equipment necessary to receive them-completely free of charge to correctional and rehabilitative facilities.

Churches and Lottery Winnings – A Losing Proposition

According to The Associated Press, Pastor Bernard Crabbe of the True North Community Church in Port Jefferson, New York, announced recently that an anonymous parishioner had donated a winning lottery ticket worth $3 million to the church. A state lottery official said the independent congregation of 650 members would now receive $100,000 annually through 2028.
