July 5, 2017–Cleveland, Tenn.—-A new music video released last week by the Lee University Voices of Lee has become an Internet sensation. The group performs, “What A Beautiful Name,” a version arranged for the group by former Voices member Phil Nitz.

Last week, President Trump issued a tweet from the White House, mocking MSNBC host Mika Brzezinski’s appearance and questioning her sanity. And after both Republicans and Democrats in Washington begged Trump to use a more civil tone in his communication, he took to Twitter again, calling Brzezinski “dumb as a rock” and her on-air partner, Joe Scarborough, “crazy.”

For the third year running, Bible Societies have distributed more than 400 million Scripture items around the world — including more than 34 million Bibles. That’s enough for more than 5% of the world’s population. And since the beginning of the decade, the United Bible Societies fellowship (UBS) has distributed Scripture material for two out of every five people on the planet. The overall 2016 total — almost 401.4 million — includes Bibles, Testaments, Gospels and smaller Scripture items like booklets for people learning to read. It’s slightly lower than 2015’s total, but is up on the 2010 total by more than 34 million items.

June 30, 2017–Cleveland, Tenn.–Lee University’s Department of Business transitions to a School of Business, effective tomorrow, July 1, 2017. The official announcement was made by Lee President Dr. Paul Conn in a faculty meeting last month after the action was ratified by the university’s Board of Directors.

As Independence Day nears, Abide, the Christian meditation and prayer app, conducted a worldwide survey to gauge how people pray for America’s leaders. The survey revealed the most frequent prayers for the president, vice president and the United States are for wisdom, obedience and humility, while terrorism was the leading national prayer topic.

Facebook has rejected a new family-friendly Fourth of July video that recounts America’s Christian heritage, because it doesn’t follow the company’s “advertising policies for advertising adult products or services.”

The Great Commission is the mandate for the church, and has been at the forefront of our efforts since the day of Pentecost.

I’ve seen it all when it comes to church offerings. Once when I attended an outdoor service in Nigeria, deacons used wheelbarrows and pickup trucks to collect money because more than 500,000 people were in the audience. Yet I know a pastor in Malawi who collects the equivalent of 80 cents in his offering plate each Sunday because his members are so poor. With that money, he has planted several churches.
