During the past ten years, the Lilly Endowment has done extensive research, which indicates many pastoral leaders in the United States are not able to effectively fulfill their leadership roles because of personal financial pressures.

We’ve prayed for the families and friends of the innocent people who died in the Pulse nightclub, and the 53 others who were wounded in the massacre. We’ve shaken our heads in disbelief that the deadliest terrorist attack since 9/11 occurred in a nice town known for its theme parks, palm trees, and carefree attitude.

Following a runoff vote that didn’t produce a majority winner on Tuesday (June 14), North Carolina pastor J.D. Greear announced Wednesday he would withdraw from the race for president of the Southern Baptist Convention during the SBC’s annual meeting in St. Louis. Greear’s decision—in an effort to help bring unity following a close vote—avoided a second runoff and left Tennessee pastor Steve Gaines elected by acclamation as president of the SBC.
