Following nominations of leaders for Youth and Discipleship and World Missions, members of the Church of God International General Council chose the group of ordained bishops to represent them on the Council of Eighteen. Combined with the Executive Committee, the body of 23 bishops forms the International Executive Council, where General Overseer Mark Williams serves as chair.
The notable failure of public housing in cities such as Chicago proved that mass housing by the government did not work. What did work was when the high rise apartments were torn down twelve years ago and people were relocated into neighborhoods. Crime rates diminished somewhat, and opportunities for families rose. No matter how great the success, like Dorothy said about Kansas, “There’s no place like home.” Home includes being a part of a safe neighborhood; home is a place where one lives permanently. If that place is falling apart, with no heat or air, with rotting floorboards and broken appliances, it’s hard to imagine living there permanently. But what can the average person do to help?
A scientist was terminated from his job at a California State University campus after discovering soft tissue on a triceratops fossil and then publishing his findings. Pacific Justice Institute filed suit last week with the Los Angeles County Superior Court against the board of trustees of CSU, Northridge, citing discrimination for perceived religious views.
Present conditions in the church and nation demand united, decisive action. We need more than one positive election … one godly, Supreme Court decision … one good sermon series or one significant, local church revival. America is desperate for a change. Overall church attendance is declining. An entire generation is emerging with little understanding of absolute truth. The only hope for change is in the spiritual climate of our nation, and it begins at the grassroots level.
