The European Court of Human Rights ruled Wednesday on the case of an Iranian who converted from Islam to Christianity and who was denied asylum by Sweden. The Grand Chamber of the court found in F.G. v. Sweden that Swedish authorities will violate the European Convention on Human Rights if they fail to assess the risk that the applicant might encounter as a result of his conversion to Christianity upon returning to Iran.
National Religious Broadcasters thanks U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry for concluding that the barbarism being perpetrated against Christians in the Middle East by ISIS is, in fact, “genocide.”
ISIS targeted more Muslim-populated areas in Syria on Sunday. According to reports, the attacks left at least 140 dead in Damascus and Homs. These attacks were the deadliest of Syria’s five-year war.
When John, a Syrian Christian, chose to stay in Raqqa after the Islamic State took control of the city in 2014, he had no idea how he would survive. Thousands abandoned the city, believing it better to save their lives than live at the center of the Islamists’ new “caliphate”. John survived in Raqqa for 18 months before escaping in the middle of the night. He told World Watch Monitor about a life of frequent harassment, witnessing weekly executions, and the sadness of ordinary Syrians who welcomed Islamic State fighters at first, but grew to regret giving them their support.
We need to support Rep. Dana Rohrabacher who has introduced legislation that designates Christians and Yazidis in the Middle East as targets of genocide. His bill specifically provides for the expedited processing of ‘immigrant and refugee status’ for these persecuted religious minorities.
Faith leaders held a news conference to discuss Pastor Saeed’s release and continued efforts to fight for religious freedom around the world. The news conference took place last Saturday in Washington, D.C.
