Although God has not called me into the pastorate at this time, His call for me do to missions is so strong that I can only imagine what pastors go through and feel in their hearts as they pastor a church. In missions, my heart goes out to the people I meet. My most recent trip to Honduras was the best trip so far, and the worst. It was the best because I loved each and every moment of being there and ministering to everyone; it was the worst because my heart is still in Honduras.
PHILIPPINES — As a missionary kid, I’m full of stories of God’s healing power, miraculous provision and unfailing protection. But the story that typifies our lives as a mission family isn’t really all that dramatic, involving only a desperate father and a prayer. But to me, an MK, it exemplifies all that my parents’ lives are about—a burden, a call, and the fight to save souls.
Starting in 2006, 4 Winds Christian Athletics distributed the testimonies of Olympic track and field athletes worldwide, including in the underground Chinese church. Outside groups that work with the underground church asked to take the testimonies into the underground church, estimated to be over 100 million people according to China Aid and the Voice of the Martyrs.
On July 2, Jack Nkandu (Zambia), Ephraim Fotso (Cameroon), and I left Yaoundé for the Equatorial Guinea border to meet with the pastors from that area. Since the driver wanted to reach the city before night, he made use of the excellent road and drove faster than he should have.
Pastor Harold Bare and Laila needed time away. Good things are happening, but distance affords reflection, rest, prayer, and perspective. Not having been to the Northwest of the United States they chose this location. In speaking with Bishop Baker of Virginia they shared their desire to meet and encourage some pastors as they traveled.
I was recently invited to go to a local village where there is a house church. This is the ideal opportunity for missions. We went many kilometers outside the city to the little village of Ratotcie. Valeriia was at home with the baby, so I went without a translator. This added a unique, yet wonderful dynamic.
