General Overseer Heads to Florida Hurricane Sites

Church of God General Overseer Dr. Tim Hill will travel to several locations in hurricane-ravaged Florida this weekend to assess damage and raise awareness of the need for support.

Hill’s visit follows on the heels of a recent “boots-on-the-ground” visit to the Houston, Texas area where he met with church leaders and promised a full effort to aid in the recovery of churches and parsonages damaged or destroyed by Hurricane Harvey.

Now that Hurricane Irma has dissipated after several days of passing over the Caribbean and Florida, Hill will meet on Sunday and Monday with the three Church of God administrative bishops in Florida whose regions were affected by the monster storm. They include Angel Marcial-Estades (Southeastern Hispanic), Anthony Pelt (Florida-Cocoa), and Keith Ivester (Florida-Tampa). The leaders will then travel to the most stricken areas.

“It’s in times like these that the Church of God is at its best,” Hill stated. “Individuals, churches, and our relief agencies have all stepped up in the aftermath of Harvey, and I greatly anticipate the response that will come for our people and churches in Florida.”

Hill noted that the independent relief agencies connected with the Church of God – Operation Compassion, Men and Women of Action, and God’s Pit Crew – have been on site in Texas and are now in Florida as well. In addition, Church of God World Missions is heavily involved in the relief effort, assessing the needs in the Caribbean and moving help in that direction as needed.
