Church of God Compound in Liberia Facing Demolition

A Church of God school and residence in the African country of Liberia is facing demolition by local authorities. Hart Moses, a Liberian minister, recently submitted to Church of God World Missions, the following report of the on-going situation:

The concrete fence of the Church of God national headquarters compound was recently broken down because of the government of Liberia’s general demolition exercise. In addition, according to the demarcation shown by the Ministry of Public Works, part of the Norma E. Williams Junior High School building located in the headquarters compound, and part of the overseer’s residence, will also be demolished. The government said that the expansion of the motor road will enter the Church of God headquarters compound. According to the present scale of measurement used, the government also claims that a portion of its land is found in our compound. Notwithstanding, a committee of those of us that have been affected compiled the cost of our individual properties and presented them to the Ministry of Public Works of the Republic of Liberia for their reconsideration. However, there has been no word from the government on this issue.

The headquarters compound is occupied with a Church of God Junior High School building, the Bible School, the overseer’s residence, the national headquarters church building, two water wells, and a small kitchen that is presently used as a generator room.

The only one of the two water wells that is functioning is located in the government’s demolition area. This demolition exercise has left the headquarters church compound very exposed, vulnerable, and insecure.

It is our prayer that God will help us to rebuild this fence without delay, so that this property will be protected from the eyes of robbers and other wicked people in the surrounding area.
