A renewed Children of the World emphasis will be introduced at the 2010 General Assembly to continue and upgrade the church’s care of children, and the offering will be designated for this purpose.
Nearly 131 orphanages minister throughout the world in the Church of God, most of them founded and sustained by local churches or territories. Seventy-six of them have received aid from World Missions, Operation Compassion and/or the Lazarus Foundation.
In preparation for the launch of the Children of the World Foundation, a board representing the Executive Committee, World Missions, Care and related ministries reviewed the accomplishments of the 2000 Children of the World emphasis, when Church of God people gave over $5 million in a General Assembly offering.
Eighteen months following the Assembly, $5,181,013.75 was disbursed with 57 percent designated for international and 43 percent for United States children’s ministries. The gifts were shared among 39 international and 23 U.S. children’s ministries. The majority of the money was assigned for capital projects―land purchase, building construction, vehicles, furnishings, and so forth.
