Rebuilding the Church, Rebuilding a Nation

After the devastating earthquake in Haiti, a hurting nation looks to rebuild and reach out to its people. The Church of God is continuing to feed the people of Haiti, but must look to the long-term restoration. Nineteen Church of God churches have been destroyed and 74 churches were damaged. We must look at rebuilding the church.

The La Saline Church, pastored by now overseer, Fred Bourdeau is one church that collapsed during the earthquake. This church also housed a professional educational institute.

Many churches follow this pattern of reaching the soul and teaching the heart to serve others. A priority will be rebuilding worship centers and training centers. We need to begin training the people of Haiti for community service and show them marketable life skills to be able to rebuild their nation.

We have several Church of God schools in Haiti. One specific school is the Seminaire Biblique. It is one of four bachelor’s-degree granting schools in Haiti and one of three in the country that is approved to train public school teachers. The Church of God has more than 100 schools (including elementary), several clinics, hospitals and orphanages. We need to rebuild the orphanages and the feeding centers to be able to reach the children of Haiti.

There are many relief organizations reaching out to Haiti at this time, but we must begin rebuilding the church to rebuild a nation.
