Cleveland, TN–A dedicated Web link for the 2010 Church of God General Assembly will be active on the Church of God Web site starting Tuesday, January 5, 2010 at noon EST.
The 73rd Church of God International General Assembly (GA2010), will take place on July 27-30, 2010 in Orlando, Florida. The event, which is conducted every two years, welcomes ministers and lay delegates from around the world and is the venue where official business of the denomination is conducted, worship services are held, leaders are elected and ministries hold gatherings and events.
The Web site launch coincides with the official day in which registration and the ability to secure housing accommodations opens. On the site, Web browsers will be able to register on-line, as well as download official documents. There will also be links to the schedule, history of the Assembly, local information and exhibits.
“There is a lot of information and details that go into preparing for a General Assembly and designing an efficient Web presence is part of the process,” stated Rev. Scot Carter, director of GA2010. “When we launch the site, there will be some information that will be yet to come, but we wanted to get the registration and housing information available as soon as possible. “ Some portions of GA2010 are still being developed, including special packages for area attractions and information on exhibits and booth space.
During the four days of business sessions at GA2010, the General Council, comprised of ordained bishops who register and attend the Assembly, deliberate and vote on a previously distributed agenda of items presented by the International Executive Council. The General Council then presents their agenda of action back to the registered delegates at the end of the week for further deliberation and a final vote of ratification. The business also includes the election of denominational leaders, such as the five- member Executive Committee, Executive Council and several department leaders. GA2010 will also include numerous ministry functions, luncheons, gatherings, fellowships and award presentations. All events will be held at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando.
In a change from recent general assemblies, there will not be a Monday evening opening worship service. GA2010 officially begins on Tuesday morning, July 27 with the first General Council session. The first worship service will held on Wednesday evening with special speaker Franklin Graham, leader of Samaritan’s Purse and son of well-known evangelist Billy Graham. On Thursday evening First Assistant General Overseer Tim Hill will minister to the delegates, while Friday evening will be the closing session and will feature an address by the General Overseer.
