Not Too Late for Christmas Child Boxes

Christians in the United States still have time to impact the life of a child through a simple, gift-filled shoebox.

Operation Christmas Child is still collecting the gift boxes which can be sent to Samaritan’s Purse through December 31. After that, they will be hand-delivered to needy children throughout the world.

Franklin Graham, president of Samaritan’s Purse, says the initiative has been blessed by God since it started in 1993. “It’s grown from the first year of 11,000 boxes to over eight-million this year,” he reports. “But that’s just God; it’s a God thing. It’s not Franklin Graham. It’s not Franklin being smart or a great marketing guy, no…God’s behind it, and we want every child who gets the box to know about God’s son, the Lord Jesus Christ.”

This year, a new feature is offered for the givers who want to track their shoeboxes.

“You can sign up for EZ Gift, and you can print at home a label to put on your box,” Graham explains. “It’s got a barcode, and that barcode is [recorded electronically], and we can actually tell you what country your box is going to. Out of the hundred countries, we can tell you which container and where it’s going and when it will arrive.”

It takes more than half a million volunteers worldwide to help sort and deliver those shoeboxes.
