A ministry leader is urging Christians to seek assets of more value as they spend less money this Christmas season.
According to research from PriceGrabber.com, Americans are planning to spend less on Christmas presents this year. Laura Baker, founder of Prasso Ministries, a discipleship ministry, says current tough economic times provide an opportunity for Christians to think about their identity and how they define themselves.
“We may live in this world, but we don’t live for this world,” she says. Given that viewpoint and considering the present economy, she feels that Christians have been offered a chance to really think about that fact. “What are we living for? [Is it] a bigger house, a better title, [or] a better position in business?” She poses that question, feeling that parents give children material possessions, “but we don’t give them time.”
In her work at Prasso, which is a Greek word for “to practice,” Baker sees that first hand.
“That is one of the things that I hear over and over again – ‘I never spent very much time with my Dad, he was always working,’ or ‘my father never told me he loved me.’ And I think now that we must spend less, I think we don’t have to have less,” the ministry founder contends. “But I don’t mean materially. I mean we can have more of the things that are really valuable.”
Prasso Ministries is offering an online Bible study, focusing on well-being from a biblical perspective.
