In a climate of economical struggle, once again the Church of God has proven that there is no limits on what can be accomplished when we look beyond ourselves and join together for a common cause and purpose.
YWEA (Youth World Evangelism Action), a missions ministry of the International Youth and Christian Education Department, announces that the 2009 YWEA project which concluded August 31, 2009 has exceeded one million dollars!
Tom Madden, International YCE Director and David W. Ray, YWEA Coordinator reports that to date a total of $1,169,503.43 has been received for the YWEA–“Hope For The Hopeless” project. 100% of the funds raised has already been transferred to the Church of God World Missions Department who will oversee the disbursement of monies to the projects in Rwanda and Kenya as outlined prior to the start of the fundraising endeavor.
“To every children’s ministry, youth group and local church pastor and leader who participated in this project, please know that the orphans and widows in the East African nations of Rwanda and Kenya are extreme grateful,” Ray stated. “Together we have accomplished more that we could have individually accomplish alone.”
In Rwanda the designated funds will help to purchase and construct a facility that will house a national church, homes for widows and orphans and a polytechnic school that will provide life-skill training. In Kenya the funds will go toward the operational support and continual development of the Kibera Kids Orphanage in Nairobi, Kenya.
“Special appreciation and accommodations are in order for every state and regional youth director without whose diligent support this accomplishment would not be possible,” said Madden. “A total of 23 states reached or exceeded their achievement levels, 10 states broke their all-time state records and three states exceed $100,000 in giving toward this project. ”
Ray and Madden reported that YWEA is not only touching the world through missions giving–the foreign mission field is now supporting YWEA. The country of Mexico under the leadership of Francisco Jimenez, National Overseer and Juan Carlos Llanos, National Youth Director has raised over $20,000.00 toward this year’s YWEA project.
