The razing of the Lee University Beach Building and the construction of a new Math and Science Complex has proven beneficial for others in Bradley County, Tennessee.

Before the scheduled demolition of the Beach Building, the university was able to donate its previous science furniture and equipment to the Bachman Academy, located in McDonald, Tenn.

“That kind of thing is something that we wouldn’t have been able to purchase, so when we get it, we use it. We really appreciate any kind of donation and also appreciate the support,” said administrative assistant Heidi Waldrop, a staff member at Bachman Academy.

The Bachman Academy is a non-profit K-12 school for students who face learning challenges such as dyslexia and AD/HD. Students at Bachman receive a full education, which is supplemented with other real-life applications such as vocational and independent living skills.

“Bachman Academy had a need and we were happy to be able to provide them with the classroom furniture,” said Lee University Department of Natural Science and Mathematics Chairperson Dr. Paul DeLaLuz.

Donated items consisted of the classroom furniture that had previously been used in the Beach building, such as lab tables, desks, chairs, and other lab furniture.

“Creating win-win situations is exactly what a university should do within its community. Lee University is pleased to help create this opportunity for the Bachman Academy,” said Assistant Vice President for University Relations Dr. Jerome Hammond.
