“During the morning service we had communion and foot washing. Pastor Daniel said I was the first American with whom he had ever washed feet…”
Sibiu, Romania
I recently arrived in Sibiu, Romania, to visit with many families and assess the needs from the harsh winter. In the evenings we had a program for the children in the village of Mag. On the first night we had 31 children, 46 the second night and 64 on the third night. There was singing, Bible stories, games and refreshments each evening with the children. It was a great time. In this village, other than what we do in our work there, not much else is done during the year. We always send Christmas gifts and goodies to the children. The pastor, Samuel Iancu, is 77 years old and his health is not so good. He pastors the church in Mag and another one in the village of Sacel.
Oltenia
After my time in the village, I moved on to the southern part of Romania, known as Oltenia. This is the part of Romania that has always been ignored. Now different missions are beginning to realize what a large field of harvest lies in this area. We have been working in this area for the past nine years.
In the Oltenia region, there are many families that we have obtained sponsors for back here in America. One of my duties is to visit each family at least once a year and get updates to share with the sponsors. For a week I worked in the villages of Sadova, Horezu-Poinarii, and Piscu-Sadovei. I also visited the two churches that we have built and helped to get started in this area. I also visited with several other local pastors that we have worked with over the years.
Timisoara
After Oltenia, I took a young man to the “Life Center” in Timisoara. This is a facility that is operated by a Romanian friend. Its purpose is to help young people get an education and to get them started in the right direction with their life, teaching them biblical principles.
Rosia
Next, I visited the village of Rosia, for about four days. I was invited to stay in the home of one of the young ladies that translates for me. This was my first time to stay in their home and it was such a great time of fellowship with her family and a time of rest for me. Then on Sunday, May 31, was able to minister in their church. This too was a great honor for me.
Brasov
My final segment of the trip was spent in a pastor’s home in Brasov, Romania. Pastor Daniel Muresan has allowed my wife and me to stay in his home since 2005, and it is always such a great pleasure to be there. From his home we visited the village churches of Zizin and Poiana-Marului. These are churches with whom we have been working for the past several years. It is my understanding that these churches receive no other outside help, other than what we provide. They are a large part of our Christmas Gift Box Operation. I was also honored to be the speaker for a baptismal service in the church at Sacele. There were twelve candidates for water baptism. This was a great time for them and for me. During the morning service we had communion and foot washing. Pastor Daniel said I was the first American with whom he had ever washed feet.
