Wilma Amison, long-term managing editor for the Church of God Evangel, retired on May 4, 2009, after having served for more than 12 years in this position. Prior to becoming managing editor, Wilma served as editorial assistant and supervisor of copyediting, for a total of 22 years of dedicated service to the ministries of the Church of God Publishing House. Prior to her work in publications, Wilma served faithfully alongside her husband, Don, in pastoral ministry and in service to the Ministry to the Military. A retirement reception was held in Wilma’s honor on Thursday, May 28, 2009.
Her work was always characterized by thorough analysis and thoughtful editing. Always sensitive to the concerns and interests of our readers, Wilma was also faithfully committed to accurately telling the stories submitted by each author. Having served under several editors in chief and directors of publications, Wilma was always a faithful member of the team, seeking constantly to convey the message of Christ and the work of the Church with excellence. She will be deeply missed.
Wilma and Don make their retirement home in Cleveland, Tennessee. Anyone wishing to send a card or note to Wilma can send it to the Evangel office, and it will be gladly forwarded to her.
The newly appointed managing editor is Lance Colkmire, noted author, churchman, and member of the Church of God Publishing House editorial staff. A native Floridian, Lance is a graduate of Lee University and of the Church of God Theological Seminary. While serving as editor of Youth and Christian Education Leadership magazine, Lance was awarded the Best Editorial award and the fourth-place award for the Humorous Article category by the Evangelical Press Association. He served from 2001 to the present as editor of young adult Sunday school literature and as editor of the Evangelical Sunday School Lesson Commentary, and currently serves as the children’s pastor at the South Cleveland Church of God. In addition to his duties as managing editor, Lance will continue to serve as the senior editor of the Commentary, while the young adult literature will be edited by a freelance editor/designer.
Three Pathway Press publications carry Lance Colkmire’s name as author: Make a Mark; Bible Trek; and the Kid Konnection children’s worship curriculum. He is also the author of numerous articles for various publications including the Church of God Evangel, and serves as a member of the Curriculum Commission of the International Pentecostal Press Association.
Lance and Sharon, his wife of 26 years, have two daughters: April, a student at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga; and Allison, who studies at Lee University.
The publishing house staff is pleased to send our prayers and best wishes with Wilma as she enters this new phase of her life, and to welcome Lance into this new, expanded ministry role.
