The Church of God Chaplains Commission will be presenting its Community Service Chaplaincy Basic Training Seminar in four locations in January, February, March and April 2009. These four courses are in addition to the annual summer term training seminar presented at the Church of God Theological Seminary each June. These chaplaincy training seminars are the first to be scheduled for the upcoming year.
This is the chaplaincy training seminar that has been offered over the past 16 years across the United States and overseas. Over 7,000 pastors, ministers, and church workers have now attended this outstanding training course. It is designed for practical ministry outside the church in the local community – in hospitals, jails and prisons, law enforcement agencies, nursing homes, hospice associations, and countless other settings.

The seminar is a comprehensive training course covering such relevant topics as: grief counseling, suicide intervention, legal concerns, depression in the workplace, prayer in the public forum, confidentiality, ethics, clergy/client privilege, death notifications, denominational attitudes, Critical Incident Stress (Education, Debriefing, Management), and local church chaplaincy ministries. If you are interested in serving your community as a chaplain, this is the training that will equip you with the skills and confidence for an effective ministry outside the church. It is designed specifically for practical, hands-on, caregiving ministry. It is for all who are interested – ministers and lay workers from any denomination or faith group – who want to serve in their local community.
The biblical mandate is clear – that we are to go out “beyond the gates” of the church and reach a hurting world for Christ – to minister “unto the least of these.” This seminar can prepare you for the challenge of ministry outside the church – out where the people are.

June 1-5 – Church of God Theological Seminary, Cleveland, Tennessee
The Jan-Feb-Mar-Apr seminars are offered in a 3-day format. The June seminar is a 5-day course.
