Global Missions Training (GMT) is a multi-phase program designed to do more than offer training. It provides a clear and intentional pathway for participants who desire to serve with spiritual depth, cultural intelligence, and practical readiness. Phase I launches this week, bringing together young leaders from across the country for a focused weeklong intensive at the beginning of their missionary journey.
Participants engage in worship, mentoring, prayer, and hands-on instruction throughout the week. They gain insight into mission theory, cultural awareness, missionary care, language acquisition, administrative practices, and the work of Church of God World Missions across five global regions. Led by experienced missionaries and leaders, the training helps participants move beyond the initial call and lean into the ongoing process of spiritual formation, personal growth, and cross-cultural preparation.
“What sets GMT apart is its intentional and comprehensive structure,” stated John Harris, liaison to GMT. “It is not a weekend seminar, a short-term trip, or an academic training only.” Harris explained the program begins with Phase I, establishing a strong foundation through an intensive week of formation. Phase II continues with a three-month cross-cultural immersion experience. Phase III offers a one-year internship, placing participants in real ministry contexts under the guidance of seasoned career missionaries. While structured and thorough, the program remains deeply personal, encouraging each person involved to discover how God is uniquely leading them to live and serve.
Although this week in Cleveland is just the beginning, the need and impact is already clear as emerging missionaries have gathered from twelve states and one international region to go on the journey.
“Global Missions Training is shaping a new generation of missionaries,” Harris continued. “These are individuals who are not only willing to go but are also preparing to serve with wisdom, endurance, and lasting impact.”
