Cleveland, TN–Pentecost Sunday – a day celebrated by millions around the globe – has also designated “Evangelism Sunday” in the Church of God.
“On June 8, 2025, churches across North America are being asked to pray for and partner with our newly inaugurated Ministry of Evangelism,” stated General Overseer Gary Lewis. “Your prayers and financial support will make a world of difference as we seek to re-engage our denomination in personal evangelism, church planting and church health/revitalization.”
In proclaiming Evangelism Sunday, the reasoning derived from the fact that the Day of Pentecost was not simply the birthdate of the Church, but the time God chose to endue with power His followers who would take the Gospel to the ends of the earth. According to a release from the Ministry of Evangelism, “that same power abides in us, today, and that same Matthew 28:19 charge has been given to us.”
