Prayer Initiative Will Focus on Upcoming Assembly

Cleveland, TN–General Overseer Tim Hill has announced a special prayer emphasis that will focus on the upcoming 79th International General Assembly and current world events.

The initiative will begin on Wednesday, May 1, 2024, with an introductory post on social media channels, and will culminate in a Facebook Live event broadcast from the International Offices on Wednesday, May 15 beginning at 11:00 am EST. In addition, this Thursday, May 2, there will be a 30-minute Facebook Live event in observance of the National Day of Prayer, beginning at 9:00 am EST from the International Offices Blair Chapel.

The General Assembly, set to take place July 9-12, 2024, in Indianapolis, Indiana, will carry a spiritual and historical significance for the Church of God. There will be crucial items for consideration, including a renewed emphasis of the denomination’s commitment to evangelism. This will also be an historic time of leadership change as three of the five members of the Executive Committee will have reached tenure and three new members will be elected to lead the Church of God. As always, there will also be many key appointments to national and international posts and the election of a Council of Eighteen.

“Over the next 15 days, I am asking Church of God members around the world to join with me and the executive committee in special prayer in behalf of global conditions, and even more specifically, that we experience, the touch and the leading of the Holy Spirit up on our next general assembly,” General Overseer Hill stated in a recent social post. “When faced with a great challenge, one day, the disciples asked Jesus how they could obtain victory over the enemy. Jesus responded with these words, ‘These challenges are only accomplished by prayer and fasting.’”

Each day, there will be a new posted prayer on Church of God social sites. The prayers have been submitted by various leaders in the Church of God, including the five Executive Committee members. Each has been requested to pray for a specific area of ministry or societal concern.

The primary location for the prayer emphasis will be Facebook, @COGHQ.
