Event Commemorates Black History Month
Cleveland, TN–A gathering held earlier this month at the Pentecostal Theological Seminary and Lee University celebrated the rich history of African descent leaders in the Church of God and beyond.
“We enjoyed a great Black History celebration,” stated Kenneth L. Hill, D. D., administrative bishop for the Church of God in Southern New England. “Members of the African Descent Ministries Advisory Council, in partnership with Executive Director Dr. Clifton Clarke of the Center for African Descent Studies (CADS) and Dr. James McIntyre and the Intercultural Ministries Board, worked together to provide excellence in ministries for those who attended these great celebrations.”
Beginning on Wednesday morning, February 7, at the PTS Chapel, Hill stated, “we enjoyed the music of Evangelist Janice Hill and a stirring message from Dr. William Turner of New York.” Following the chapel service, the event adjourned for a luncheon in the Knight Hall, sponsored by PTS, and a lecture by Dr. Eric Williams of Duke Divinity School. During the luncheon, awards for leadership were presented to Evangelist Jacqueline Smith and posthumously to Dr. Daniel Vassell, Sr.
The event culminated with an evening celebration at the Stone Chapel at Lee University with musical spirituals led by the Lee Evangelist Singers and Dr. J. Anthony Taylor and the voices from the Greater Community Church of God in Christ of Chattanooga.
